Entrance to the property from the road is via old stone steps leading to the main terraced veranda. There is the door to a very traditional kitchen-dining room. The original marble flagstones, granite sink, fireplace and wall ovens, and the winding wooden staircase plus many other charming features are authentically Corfiot. Other parts of the building give the impression of an old manor house: tall windows, high-beamed ceilings, heavy wooden doors and Cypress wood floors. Next to the kitchen is another large room currently used as store room. To the left side of the kitchen is the door to the large sitting room. Very big windows are giving panoramic sea views. Next to the sitting room is another entrance with a balcony. A few stone steps lead to a lower terrace where vine-covered arched pergolas, provide dappled shade during the summer season. Here is a self-contained apartment with one bedroom, large kitchen-dining room-lounge and a bathroom. Directly beyond the main sitting room is a study, and tucked away up a few steps in typically Corfiot design, which is full of surprises and hidden rooms, is a double bedroom and bathroom. Other doors from the study lead to the large main bedroom and a bathroom. Going back to the main staircase, you go up another level to another room with beamed, vaulted ceilings. This is currently being used as a guest bedroom. Beyond this is the present owner's design workshop, situated at the top of the house and benefiting from a long dormer window with uninterrupted views along the coast to Corfu Town and across to the Greek mainland. Each level of this building has its own unique style. The current owners have taken great care in retaining the special character of the original building. |
